Tom Sparks won the inaugural thesis prize of the Global Policy North research network of 2018 for his dissertation Towards a Human-Centred International Law: Self-Determination and the Structure of the International Legal System. The prize comes with an award of 300 Pounds. The judges praised the thesis for meticulous research, compelling argument, and theoretical and methodological sophistication. There was fierce competition for this first prize, but the judges felt that this thesis makes an outstanding contribution to the literature.
